Tasting Notes
During the 2017 harvest, we were quite fortunate to get a surprise call from Eric Glomski at Page Springs Cellars. He was offering us small amounts of three varietals from his Verde Valley vineyards, and, despite lacking the space or budget, we couldn’t turn it down. This Syrah comes from House Mountain Vineyard which sits on the slopes of a dormant volcano near the D.A. Ranch Vineyard in the Page Springs area. (Our business partners at D.A. Ranch are also partners with Eric on this vineyard and our own Jeff Hendricks planted it!). By this point, we’ve seen Syrah from so many different vineyards in AZ, we had to add this baby to the list! This is an elegant Syrah - despite the higher alcohol - with a fruit slightly more restrained and palate less rich and tannic than its counterparts from southeastern AZ. A pretty reliable trait in the vineyards from this area...
Production Notes
Destemmed but not crushed to an open-top, 3⁄4-ton bin. Cold-soaked 24 hours, then inoculated with specially selected yeasts (Clos). Hand punched 3-4 times daily. Inoculated with Malolactic bacteria (Omega) around 7 Brix. Pressed at dryness after 11 days skin contact. Settled 3 days before barreling.
