Tasting Notes
During the 2017 harvest, we were quite fortunate to get a surprise call from Eric Glomski at Page Springs Cellars. He was offering us small amounts of three varietals from his Verde Valley vineyards, and, despite lacking the space or budget, we couldn’t turn it down. This Petite Sirah comes from House Mountain Vineyard, which sits on the slopes of a dormant volcano near the D.A. Ranch Vineyard in the Page Springs area. (Our business partners at D.A. Ranch are also partners with Eric on this vineyard and our own Jeff Hendricks planted it!). We don’t work with Petite very often, but our love for this varietal at the D.A. Ranch has piqued our interest in Petite Sirah from this area in general. It’s so much more restrained and subdued than your average Petite – we’ve already contracted for more in 2018! Only one barrel produced.
Production Notes
Destemmed but not crushed to open-top, 3⁄4-ton bins. Cold-soaked 24 hours, then inoculated with specially selected yeasts (D80 & VRB). Hand punched 3-4 times daily. Inoculated with Malolactic bacteria (Omega) around 7 Brix. Pressed at dryness after 10 days skin contact. Settled 3 days before barreling.
